Bill Gaither costuma dizer que o The New Gaither Vocal Band (como foi batizado à princípio) foi formado em 1981, mas na verdade podemos afirmar que o aparecimento do quarteto se deu em 1980, quando alguns expoentes da música gospel da época se reuniram pra interpretar a música "First Day In Heaven".Não só o baixo original, Lee Young, confirma a data, mas um registro evidente está na apresentação que o próprio Bill faz desta música no álbum "Live Across América", em 1980. Esse arranjo é um pouco diferente daquele que eles fizeram no seu disco de estréia "The New Gaither Vocal Band", em 1981.O Gaither Vocal Band se chama assim porque a princípio eles não queriam restringir o número de componente a 4 cantores.Em 1982, Lee Young deixou o grupo e Jon Mohr foi escolhido como o novo baixo. Eles então gravam o álbum, "Passin' The Faith Along", em 1983. Mais tarde, após a saída de Steve Green, o primeiro tenor Larnelle Harris entrou como seu sucessor, o grupo lançou então seu terceiro álbum, "The New point Of View" pouco antes da saída de Jon Mohr.Neste ponto The New Gaither Vocal Band teve uma renovação, mudando o nome do quarteto ao que tem hoje. Bill Gaither começou a cantar no naipe de baixo (na época chamado de "baixo barítono"), Gary McSpadden ficou como barítono e Michael English assumiu a voz principal do grupo em 1986.Enquanto o álbum anterior ("The New point Of View") tinha experimentado um estilo mais contemporâneo do que os seus antecessores, o quarto álbum "One X 1", de 1986, estreou com o novo nome e formação da banda com um som e estilo ainda mais sofisticado.Após este álbum Larnelle saiu do quarteto, sendo substituído por um cantor chamado Lemuel Miller, que não chegou a gravar com o quarteto antes de sair. Ele foi substituído pelo ex-primeiro tenor do The Imperials, Jim Murray.Em 1988 foi lançado o álbum "Wings". Neste mesmo ano Gary McSpadden deixou o grupo para dedicar mais tempo à sua carreira solo, sendo Mark Lowry foi escolhido para substituí-lo.Passaram pelo GVB grandes vozes como Terry Franklyn (1T), Jonathan Pierce (1T), Buddy Mullins (2T), Guy Penrod (2T), David Phelps (1T), Wes Hampton (1T) e Marshall Hall (b ).Em 2009, o GVB passa por mudanças, experimentando uma nova formação, desta vez com cinco cantores e com a volta de ex-integrantes. Histórico do Quarteto Arautos do Rei(1963 – 2008)O quarteto Arautos do Rei nasceu em 1963. A princípio, estava vinculado ao programa “A Voz da Profecia”, primeiro programa de rádio evangélico veiculado no país, com mais de 65 anos. Nessa época o quarteto cantava ao vivo nos programs da Voz e também acompanhava o seu orardor, Pr. Roberto Rabelo, nas várias cruzadas evangelísticas por todo o Brasil. Durante todos esses anos tem pregado através da boa música evangélica a mensagem que Jesus em breve voltará, bem como outras preciosas verdades bíblicas.Fizeram parte dos Arautos do Rei 39 cantores e 16 pianistas, compondo até o presente momento, 25 formações. Todas elas cumpriram sua missão de pregar o evangelho em bom som e coerência com a Palavra de Deus.
